I can't speak highly enough of Anneliese and The Art of Dogs. We had never boarded Enzo, our then-four-month old mini dachshund, before, and we were very nervous to do so. I knew from the moment that I spoke with Anneliese that this was the right decision. Prior to his board and train at TAOD, Enzo was showing signs of pretty severe separation anxiety. At that point, we could only leave him at home in his crate for an hour max, and he would cry the whole time. We went into his B&T hoping to make progress on this, as well as some of his basic puppy manners and potty training. |

My GSD Sissi and I had the privilege of working with Anneliese this summer in Menominee,WI. I am just a dog mom who wants an obediant/ respectful pup with an interest in scent work and dog sport as a fun little hobby for us. Anneliese was extremely helpful in our goal setting and in outlining the work needed to achieve those goals. She was enthusiastic and encouraging and took her time with us... explaining the science behind achieving behaviors and demonstrating in real time. She's patient and knows what she's doing. We miss her! Oregon is lucky to have her!!

Anneliese is very smart and kind. She brought along her dogs to help introduce mine and my husbands dogs. The meeting didn’t work out as planned as my dog was too reactive and had some issues to work on, but Anneliese gave us options and hope. Our dog will be spending three weeks at her board and train program. After talking with Anneliese, it is clear she is very well educated and experienced in her field. She spent over an hour with us at our home at our first session, which is a steal especially when compared to Petsmart and Petco’a personal training sessions. Our family highly recommends the Art of Dogs. |

Oh….we had so much fun with you!!! Wish we could have spent hours and hours absorbing your knowledge! You are a WONDERFUL teacher and a WONDERFUL person to boot! There are not many trainers like that, so be very proud in your choice of profession! Thank you so much for making the extra effort to explain and have patience with two “old people!!" Lol! Thank you SO much again.
Before working with Anneliese, I had a pretty tough time with my (now) 4 year old male Heeler/German Shepherd mix. Around the age of 2 he developed severe dog reactivity. He would sometimes get into fights with dogs while hiking off leash, but would be even MORE reactive if I would keep him ON leash. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. It got to be so bad, that I dreaded taking my boy on a walk for fear of running into other dogs. Moreover, I was so confused as to why he was so reactive towards dogs but his biological sister was not, considering they had virtually the same experiences growing up. To give you some context, both of my dogs had plenty of socialization as puppies and have basic obedience backgrounds through "All Positive" or "R+" training methods. In every other situation, my boy is very well behaved. So I worked with multiple strictly "All Positive/R+" trainers for this issue over the course of two years, and STILL progress was pretty minimal. It occurred to me that we hit a major plateau in the effectiveness of that training method. You see, while entirely reward based methods worked for my indifferent female, my reactive male couldn't give a rats arse about treats or rewards when unfamiliar dogs were around. So at the beginning of this year, I decided to do some more research into different training methods. That is when I found Anneliese, who would be considered more of a "Balanced Trainer." I will admit, I had my reservations at first because I was so committed to a ZERO corrections/all reward-based approach to training my dogs. I mean after all, I had such success with my female. But Anneliese gave me all the information I needed to make the decision to consider a different approach for my boys situation and enter him into her "Board and Train" program. What sealed the deal for me was the importance Anneliese placed on involving me in the training process from the start. The truth is, many reactive/aggressive dogs offer the results you want when at their trainers facility, but often relapse when they return home. When the program was over, Anneliese taught me what I needed to know to properly carry on training when we got home. AND she actively checked up on us. You can tell that she wants you and your dog to succeed long term... And succeed we did!! I couldn't be happier with the results. I can now peacefully walk my boy anywhere, and feel equipped to take on any situation with him. I am so proud of him and I am so grateful for Anneliese. If you stuck it out through this review, here are a few takeaways:
1) No dog training method is a one size fits all. My boys issues required the diverse tool set and experience Anneliese has.
2) Training the humans is just as important as training the dogs for long term success.
3) If you can relate to my situation at all, it would be a mistake not to work with Anneliese.
I would like to compliment you on what you have done with Mia, she actually listens and learns. I am positive this would not have happened, if I had had her trained locally. You truly have a gift and obvious passion for the craft. I will be in touch soon and appreciate all that you have done. You are a wonderful trainer and I will recommend you highly to everyone I come in contact with. THANK YOU! |
